In the coming weeks, you will be able to send yourself notes, reminders and updates on the app.

Popular messaging app, WhatsApp has always been ahead of the game, constantly introducing new features to improve user experience. One of such features which will be rolled out in the coming weeks, lets users send messages to themselves. This way, you can save notes, updates and reminders on the app, accessible only to you.

Message yourself

The new tool, ‘Message Yourself’ to be rolled out to the over 2.5 billion users of the app, makes it possible for you to initiate a one-on-one chat with yourself on the app. With this feature, you can keep track of your to-do-lists, send yourself reminders or shopping lists, the Meta-owned messaging app said on Monday.

You will see your contact at the top of the contacts list on WhatsApp when you create a new chat. Tapping that contact will take you to the chat screen that you can use to send messages to yourself.

To avoid losing the self-chat message under a pile of other messages, you can pin it to the top of the conversation list.

Workaround

Until now, you could only message yourself by creating a group with just you as a member or by using the apps ‘click to chat’ feature, both inelegant solutions at best. Rival platform Signal already offers a feature called ‘Note to Self’ that does much the same thing, though it's buried in your contacts list rather than being available at the top. Similarly, community platform Slack has a dedicated space titled ‘Jot Something Down’ to let users send notes to themselves. Telegram also offers a similar feature called ‘Saved Messages’ that lets users bookmark any important messages.
