2023's most used password in the UK has been revealed and it is causing concern...

As more of our lives become reliant on our online presence, it becomes more crucial to understand the importance of one’s data and the risks associated with breaches. Banking, health services and social security are a few examples of services that have transitioned online; services that can cause immense damage should they be infiltrated by hackers.

However, if you look at the most commonly used passwords in the UK, it would probably seem that many people either are not aware of the importance of cyber security of simply do not care. Either way, it is incredibly dangerous to expose one’s self so easily.

Top passwords used in the UK

NordVpn carried out research to find out the most commonly used passwords. They used data from actual data breaches. Meaning that they got the user data from actual leaks that exist online; the very same thing users should be worried about. What they found is as follows:

  4. liverpool
  5. 123456789
  6. arsenal
  7. 12345678
  8. 12345
  9. abc123
  10. Chelsea

The dangers of easy-to-guess passwords

When people use simple passwords for all of their accounts, it becomes very easy to log into all of their important online accounts if log-ins leak, and just like that hackers have the reigns to do as they please - especially if they get details about identity, banking details address, etc...

They can then wreak havoc on anyone’s life with a few clicks. As such, it is recommended to not only use hard-to-guess passwords that mix letters, numbers and characters but also not reuse passwords from one account to the other. Using a password manager is the best investment one could make as it creates very hard to crack passwords that are stored in a safe place and are easily loaded on any device when you want to log into any account.
