Found in a horrendous condition
Dolly, a three-year-old Shih Tzu, was found abandoned on the streets. She was extremely thin and dehydrated, weighing only 2.5kg. Her matted coat was causing her discomfort. To Blue Cross’s heartbreak, she also had a badly infected and ruptured eye which needed to be removed.

Dolly was in a terrible state when she arrived in our care. It’s obvious she had not known a loving home for a long time.
She was still producing milk
The charity’s vet also found out Dolly has recently given birth. She was still producing milk and must have been devastated to have her puppies taken away from her in such a traumatic way.

Wiltshire commented:
It’s heartbreaking as it’s clear she had been bred recently as she was still producing milk, so had been feeding puppies on no real food herself.
‘She has made all our lives better’
Blue Cross have done amazing job nursing Dolly back to health and making her rehoming possible. When she was finally available to adopt, it didn’t take her long to catch the eyes of Jim and Pat. The couple were ‘besotted with her’.

It left their other dog Mitzi very lonely, and they started to search for a ‘perfect friend’ for her. A work colleague advised them to try the Blue Cross at Burford, and it turned out to be a success.
Jim added:
She has settled into our home like she owns the place. She is a constant source of amusement for Mitzi and my wife and I. We can say honestly that she has made all of our lives better in the time she has been with us.More under this adMore under this ad
