For these six dogs, it was a very close call. They could have drowned if members of the rescue service hadn’t quickly gotten involved. They were discovered barking, on their hind legs, begging to be let out of their kennel that had become a deathtrap due to rising water levels.

The dogs were retrieved from a property in Leland, North Carolina, even though the owner had abandoned their house and their pets in order to flee Hurricane Florence.

In a video of the rescue mission, we can see these six big dogs barking, desperately asking for help, while their rescuer Ryan Nichols, painstakingly entered the water to get to the locked kennel. Once the door opened, the poor animals scrambled out of their cage, wagging their tails and heading straight for their rescuers.
