Surprisingly enough, this is not the first time that Hailey has encountered a bear in her garden. During the summer months, bear sightings in several parts of California are actually a normal occurrence. She said in her story time video on TikTok:

This particular mama bear decided to wander around the residential area with her two cubs. The family was walking along the wall fence, when all of Hailey’s canines ran out to chase them away. While the two young cubs fled the scene, the mama bear stayed to protect her cubs and began attacking the barking dogs from the ledge.

Meanwhile, Hailey was inside her house under the assumption that her dogs making a ruckus over nothing. She recounted:
This is our garden area and the dogs start barking, and I just thought they were barking at dogs, because they always bark at dogs and squirrels or whatever. I go to tell them to stop and when I go over there to see what they’re barking at, I’m like ‘that’s a funny-looking dog.
By the time I get there, the bear is literally picking up one of my dogs.More under this adMore under this ad
When her fight or flight response kicked in, Hailey chose to fight without any hesitation. She added:
I go over to the bear, I look it in the eyes, and the first thing I think to do is push it. Push a bear, push an apex predator. To be honest, I don’t think I pushed her that hard. I just pushed her enough to make her lose her balance, so she dropped my dog and I ran out of there. I grabbed my other dog, I sprained my finger and scraped my knee, but we’re all OK.More under this adMore under this ad
