Here's how you can keep your home mosquito free while opening your windows to keep your house cool this summer.

The eagerly awaited summer months are finally here. While it means travel, vacations and probably time at the beach, it brings its own fair share of problems. One of the most annoying things about summer is that while it feels great to have a picnic outside on the terrace or garden, or to enjoy the cool air breeze through the windows, open windows and doors also lead to many undesirable and uninvited visitors into the house, namely ticks, flies and mosquitos.

While you could avoid eating food that could be the reason you attract mosquitoes, or stop wearing certain colours if you want to be spared from mosquito bite this summer, here are some additional precautions you should be taking to completely prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

Install mesh screens on the windows

As reported by Daily Star, one of the simplest yet most effective ways to keep mosquitoes out, is by installing a mesh screens on your windows. The report included advice from expert Nic Shacklock from Online Bedrooms UK, who states,

The obvious answer is to insert a mesh window screen.
It’s not common for houses in the UK to have this but you can purchase these screens and install them yourself.

Use peppermint oil

The expert also shares that peppermint oil is a great way to keep out not only mosquitoes but also other insects such as spiders. As per Shacklock,

Add some peppermint oil to water and mix together, then use a spray bottle to disperse the liquid around the house focusing on windows and doors.

Keep lights off & keep your home clean

Even if opening the windows and doors feel like a necessity during the warmer months, ensure that your home is not lit up with bright lights. Having lights blazing inside your home will attract all manner of insects and bugs, including mosquitoes to your home.

As per the expert, you should also ensure that your home is clean in order to ascertain that you are not providing an environment for bugs and mosquitoes to thrive in, since they are attracted to dirty environment.
