This video of insects living in strawberries has been traumatising the internet

A recent viral TikTok video has been driving lots of people crazy, especially those who have been getting ready to buy seasonal fruits now that the weather is improving.

Some internet users, who were sceptical about whether it would work or not, decided to try and replicate the experiment, and to their horror and amazement, some have reported that in fact, it did work.

The experiment involved putting strawberries(without previously washing them) in a glass bowl with salted water and leaving them to rest for half an hour. According to the user who made the original video, this forces these little creatures to emerge from their hiding place within the berries.

Luckily, some people tried it and nothing happened, like this Spanish recipe account for example who used strawberries from Huelva in their experiment.

Could theselittle critters be indigenous to specific geographical locations? UK strawberries seem to be safe, but it never hurts to check your strawberries over carefully before eating them.
