Lidl recalls minced meat over food safety issue

Lidl GB has recalled a batch of Birchwood Beef and Pork Mince (23% Fat) as it could contain pieces of plastic. Customers who bought packs of the affected mince are being advised not to consume it and instead to return it to store for a full refund. No other products are affected by the recall.

Which products are affected?

The product recall affects 750g packs of Birchwood Beef and Pork Mince (23% Fat) with a Use By Date of 01 March only. You can find the use-by date on the front of the packaging. If you have bought one of these products, you are advised not to eat it. Instead, you can return it to store for a full refund.

You do not need a receipt in order to be refunded for this product. If you are unable to get to a Lidl store, you can send a photo of the product, clearly showing the Use By Date to customer.services@lidl.co.uk. The supermarket’s customer services team will then process your refund by post.

Lidl, who recalled a batch of packs of Birchwood XXL Pork Mince for the same reason last month, have apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused. In its recall notice, the supermarket also advised customers that they can contact Customer Services on 0370 444 1234 for any further queries or concerns.

What is a food recall?

A food recall happens when a problem is found with a food item and customers are asked to return the product. This can be due to the product becoming contaminated–either with foreign matter such as pieces of plastic or with bacteria such as listeria or salmonella. Food recalls can also happen when allergy information isn’t properly labelled.
