What is the seven skin method?
Beauty bloggers everywhere have been loving this new Korean skincare tip. The seven skin method - skin being toner in the K-beauty world - involves applying a whole 3-7 layers of toner or hydrating essence to ensure optimum plumpness and glow.

The seven skins method works by adding extra hydration to the skin and making sure your toner is truly absorbed. When it comes to facial treatments, parlours often include steaming techniques to ensure the products really soak in. By adding multiple thin layers of toner or essence, you also give your skin the chance to drink from the pool of hydration with every application. Couple this method with a hyaluronic acid or peptide moisturiser, and you’ll be able to achieve glowing skin every single day.
How to add the seven skin method to your routine
The hardest part of adding the seven skin technique to your skincare routine is keeping track of the layers. All you need to do is:

- Apply a small amount of toner to the face and pat it into the skin.
- While the skin is still slightly damp, add another thin layer of toner
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 three to five more times
- Making sure your skin is still damp; go in with any serums, moisturiser and SPF.
This technique can be used morning or night and can provide an excellent base for your makeup.
Applying a multitude of toner to your face may seem like it would waste a lot of time and product, but you don’t need to apply the whole seven layers every day. Too much of a good thing might cause irritation, so just listen to your skin; you may need fewer layers than you think.
If you’re worried about running through your essences too quickly, just keep in mind that an extra bottle or two probably costs much less than a spa treatment.

As seven skins is a nourishing method, it works great for almost all skin types. However, make sure you’re using a hydrating toner and not an astringent or exfoliating one. Old alcohol-based toners, toners loaded with essential oils and fragrances, as well as those loaded with acids, will dry you out. Applying multiple layers of these types of toners could lead to irritation, sensitivity and moisture barrier damage.
