Origins of the collaboration
The german-born designer popularized the minimalist movement throughout the 80's and 90's and has since remained a major player on the scene regularly showing at fashion week and dressing celebrities on the red carpet. In 2009, the so-called 'Queen of Less' announced the creation of her own fashion consultancy and took on Uniqlo as her first client overseeing the design process of all of its men's and women's pieces. The first collaborative collection was released in autumn of 2009 and subsequently continued producing collections until autumn of 2011.
