When Ann Le, the mother, found out she was expecting identical twins, she knew it was a high-risk pregnancy. She had a mono-chorionic and mono-amniotic pregnancy, which means that the two little girls, Zoe and Olivia, were completely identical and had the same genetic heritage.

The twins shared the same placenta and the same amniotic sac, which can sometimes lead to complications, which it actually did. As a result of a complication, the parents were told that their daughters would arrive 12 weeks before their due date.

‘I remember our doctor explaining the twins were sharing one sac and one placenta, meaning they were not only fighting for space, but they were fighting for food,’ explained Le in an interview with Today.

The babies were born on 29th January at 28 weeks and 5 days and the two twins were then separated for 27 days in order to receive the proper care. The mother hadn’t been able to experience skin to skin contact with them before they were taken, and this affected her quite badly.
A touching reunion
When the sisters were reunited, it was as if they had never been apart. The healthiest of the two put her arm around her twin. The parents, startled, were able to capture this moment and posted it on their Instagram page ‘Momo Twin Experience’ :
