Brazil and France in World Cup 2022

France is the defending champion this year, having won the World Cup in 2018. Previously it has been the world champion in 1998. Brazil is also a previous World Cup champion, having won the tournament on 5 occasions: 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002.

This year, France was the first country to be qualified for the round of 16, also called the knockout stage of the World Cup. It did so after beating Australia 4-1 and Denmark 2-1.

Brazil saw a 2-0 win over Serbia and managed a 1-0 victory over Switzerland in the group stages, also sealing its place in the next leg of the tournament.
