The mother-of-two died after being bitten by a hamster

On Friday 11 October 2024, at around 10:30pm, a 38-year-old unnamed Colombian woman died on her way to the hospital in Spain. The mother-of-two had been bitten by her house pet, a hamster, only a few hours prior to her death. Her two children, aged 11 and 17, were with her at the time, and they sadly witnessed her passing, only a few feet away from the front door of the health center.

Doctors rushed out of the hospital to try and resuscitate the young mother, but their attempts were sadly unsuccessful. It is still unclear whether the woman died because of the bite, but some people have already been taken to hospital after being bitten by their hamsters, usually due to an anaphylactic reaction.

Some pets can also carry rabies or bacterial infections, which can induce a lethal condition for humans.

The cause of death should be revealed soon

According to local reports, an autopsy is scheduled to be carried out on the woman's body. The goal is to determine whether the bite was the cause of her death, or whether she suffered from a separate ailment. While the date of the post-mortem is yet unknown, the results are not expected to be made public. Indeed, in Spain, they are legally kept under wraps.
