Man who died and came back to life reveals what he saw 'on the other side' after following a bright light

For the last couple of decades, both scientists and regular people have been looking into what can happen after death. A good way to get this information first-hand is to ask people who have had near-death experiences. One doctor even studied the different experiences of adults and children dying, as young children are not old enough to have been influenced by films. They all recounted seeing a bright light. This is also the case for one particular Reddit user.

A Reddit user recounts his experience

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, answered a question a Reddit:

Redditors who have died then been resuscitated, what do you remember seeing? I've always been curious. Also, if anyone has any stories about how this changed their perception on religion, please share.

And one can say he delivered! Indeed, while he does not want to reveal how he 'died', the man still explained that he followed a bright light that led him to his late grandmother, who played a key role in his life. He wrote:

As cliche as it may seem, I saw a brilliant light, and walked into it. Inside, I saw my childhood home and my recently departed grandmother. We talked awhile and then she asked me a question that hit me like a ton of bricks: Are you doing something that matters with your life?

He explains how this has affected his life since

This man's story is much different from what we're used to hearing, where people usually find a renewed purpose. He explained that he was not a good person before his near-death experience:

When I was resuscitated, I came back in abject panic, but the most pressing thing that was in my mind was the realisation that if I had died at that moment, I would have left the world worse off for having me in it.

For him, this experience was a wake-up call to become a better person, and to make amends.

I decided to change who I was and make life a little kinder. I now work as a counsellor working with traumatised children who have experienced abuse, and I have never been happier. I guess I just needed to die to be reborn.

He chose to use his 'death' to actually try to bring kindness to those around him, something he never used to do before his experience. When asked about his religious beliefs since then, he chose to answer by focusing on something else, although admitting he still considers himself an atheist:

I had a powerful experience and can't really explain it, but if I focused on that, I would be wasting my time on daydreams instead of doing what matters: trying to leave the world a little better than when I found it.
