Plastic bottles may soon be disappearing with the evolution of this product. These small water-filled bubbles were created by a London start-up company that specialises in sustainable packaging. The bubbles are called Ooho and contain drinking water in an edible shell that is made from natural algae extract. Keep an eye out for them the next time you go grocery shopping!

The start-up company is called Skipping Rocks Lab and consists of several engineers who introduced the environment-saving product, Ooho Water back in 2013. The company even managed to raise more than £500,000 in just a few days after the launch.

How does it work?

These little 'water bottles' contain no plastic and the water is actually encased by a double membrane made out of just two ingredients: sodium alginate which is derived from algae and calcium chloride. Combined the chemicals make an edible gel wall that can easily contain water. This reduces the need for plastic bottles that do nothing but harm the environment.

So eat your water and save the planet!
