What does this mean for Strictly 2021?
It’s not clear whether this means another elimination will be scrapped down the line—possibly a planned double elimination will become a single elimination—or whether only three couples will now dance in this year’s Strictly final instead of four.

Comedian and writer Robert Webb has been forced to withdraw from Strictly on advice from his doctor. The star went through open-heart surgery two years ago and the demanding Strictlyschedule has taken its toll on his health. In an emotional statement, Robert thanked his pro partner Dianne Buswell as well as all the viewers who have supported them. He said:
It was always going to be a difficult mountain to climb (for one thing it’s made of glitter so it’s very skiddy) and I’ve been especially touched by the support from fellow heart patients. I think perhaps I was too eager to impress them. They will know that recovery doesn’t always go in a straight line, and I hope they’re not too disappointed that I ran into the limits of my resilience much sooner than I’d hoped.More under this adMore under this ad
His partner Dianne Buswell was full of praise too as she said:
I am so proud of the three amazing dances we produced. I know Robert had a lot more to give to the competition but his health of course comes first and I wish him a speedy recovery. I feel lucky to have danced with him and to call him a friend.
Robert will be very much missed in the ballroom. We’re wishing him all the best for his recovery!
