Married at First Sight UK: Did Nathanial know that Ella was transgender before she came out to him?

The second episode of Married at First Sight UK(MAFS UK) left fans in tears as they saw Nathanial Valentino accept his future wife Ella Morgan as a trans woman and marry her. As he accepted Ella he insisted that he falls in love with the person regardless of their gender.

Many MAFS UKfans targeted the show for being ‘fake’ as they speculated that Nathanial was already told he was matched with a trans woman off-camera.

Channel 4 admits Nathanial already knew Ella’s sexual orientation

MailOnline has confirmed that Channel 4 has accepted that ‘they had actually told the groom in advance of the TV ceremony despite him acting shocked at the revelation.’ Usually, the contestants do not get to know who they’re marrying until they meet them at the altar.

However, considering this was the first time MAFS UK featured a trans bride, they were making sure everyone’s ‘wellbeing’ was protected in the process. A statement issued by the channel read:

This is the first time MAFS UK has featured a trans bride so, to ensure fully informed consent, and with the permission of the bride, the groom was told that the match found for him was a trans woman, after which both parties chose to continue in the process.

In all other ways, the integrity of the format was preserved. Our priority during matchmaking is to protect the wellbeing of the cast and create compatible matches, based on detailed assessment of individual preferences, as part of an in-depth, careful matchmaking process.

Show bosses added that ‘a high duty of care' was put into their match.

MAFS UK fans react to Nathanial and Ella’s wedding

When the 29-year-old Clinic Consultant came out to the 36-year-old Events Manager, fans were left delighted to see what Nathanial had to say. After Ella’s confession, he told her:

As beautiful as you are, it isn’t about how you look. It’s about how you are inside and how you make me feel.

Seeing how he wholeheartedly accepted Ella, many fans took to Twitter to praise the couple. They said:

Nathaniel must be protected at all costs #mafsuk

I’ve cried twice in 20 minutes Ella and Nathaniel you got me.

Nathaniel is a King. Look at Ella's smile.
