Fans declare Love Island, the nation’s most-watched reality TV show, a “sham” after discovering that only 6 islanders from this year’s series were selected out of 85,000 applications.

ITV Chief Executive Dame Carolyn McCall confirmed; “On series five of Love Island to date (15 July), they have been 36 contributors…Twenty-four were found and cast by the programme’s casting team, six were put forward by professional agents and six came through the general application process.”

Furthermore, a Love Island spokesperson is adamant that the same process applies to everyone; “We are very transparent about how we find people for the show, and whether they are invited to audition or apply themselves, everyone…goes through exactly the same process.”

This year’s line-up has included a whole host models, social media influencers, young socialites and successful athletes therefore it is likely they would have been sourced out by the ITV team.

One spokesperson for the recruitment team admitted, “I’m always on the lookout for attractive people who might fit the bill for Love Island…It’s a very rigorous process of screening that goes on before they actually get on to Love Island.
