Miscarriage - pregnancy loss during the first 23 weeks - is more common than many people realise. In most cases it is entirely unpreventable. According to the NHS, 1 in 8 women who know they are pregnant will experience miscarriage, whilst yet more miscarriages occur so early in pregnancy that they go undetected.
