Hugo reveals Liberty pulled him for a flirty chat in unseen moment

Liberty and Jake have gone from being favourites to win Love Island to being saved from the most recent dumping by the skin of their teeth. Despite being the first couple to become officially boyfriend and girlfriend, Jake's loyalties have been questioned by viewers, Islanders and Liberty recently. Back at the start of the season, Jake was honest about the fact he was exploring his options—and it seems we nearly saw Lib couple up with a different boy too.

Hugo and Liberty

In an interview with Closer magazine, Hugo let slip that Liberty had flirted with him in the villa in some unseen moments. He said:

When I got back I spoke to my family and I said, 'Oh did you see that Lib pulled me for a chat when Jake had a chat with Mills?' and I don't think it was shown, but me and Lib had a chat.

Fellow dumped Islander Lucinda Strafford was also in the interview and backed up Hugo's claim that Lib pulled him for a chat. While Hugo attempted to play down the revelation by saying that it happened weeks ago, Lucinda appeared to be shocked that the conversation hadn't been shown on screen, proclaiming:

That's goss. Tea central.

When the interviewer pressed Hugo to reveal what had been said in the unseen chat, he seemed unwilling to divulge any details, saying: 'Nothing, just, um—well, not nothing but… Obviously Jake was getting to know Mills so…'

Lucinda then cut across him to say 'She was exploring her options, wasn't she.'

Will Jake and Liberty last?

As viewers know, neither Jake and Millie's nor Hugo and Liberty's chats ever came to anything. Less than a week from the final, Jake and Liberty are still coupled up—although they've been on rocky ground for a while. Hugo's revelation is a reminder that we're only seeing the bits of villa action that have been carefully curated by the Love Island producers—so it's all to be taken with a pinch of salt!
