The UK’s most-watched reality TV show has only just returned to our screens and amidst the on-screen drama which has begun to unfold, an undeniable trend has taken shape and is playing out on screen, leaving viewers feeling both disappointed and uncomfortable.

The first episode of the series featured the infamous coupling ceremony which can be relied on for supplying viewers with deliciously awkward content each year as we watch the egos of contestants shrink dramatically.
More under this adMore under this adHowever the scene from last night seemed to mirror that from last year and for all the wrong reasons. Those left until the end consisted of three black and mixed race contestants and viewers are rightfully recognising how wrong this is.
After watching the show, ex-islander Marcel Sommerville took to Twitter to share his disgust and inform the public of what he experienced when the same occurred while he participated in the show in the previous series.

One user commented, “Eurocentric standards of beauty seem to still play a role.” Another encouraged Marcel to put the togs back on and get back in there, “Bro lmao you need to go back and educate some of them in there”.
