BGT receives hundreds of complaints after only two episodes: 'You should not be showing this'

Britain’s Got Talent returned to our screen last weekend. While many fans were delighted to see the talent that the country boasts, many BGT fans were left aghast as they saw a man light himself on fire whilst solving a Rubik's Cube. Soon after the episode aired, Ofcom is understood to have received over 300 complaints for just one particular act.

BGT get over 300 Ofcom complaints for Rubik’s Cube act

According to The Sun, the TV watchdog received 334 official complaints shortly after the episode broadcast. Ofcom revealed:

Complaints related to a routine which involved a contestant trying to complete a Rubik's Cube whilst on fire.

BGT judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli initially questioned how Rubik's cube would be interesting. However, American Thomas Vu changed their views as he performed his nail-biting and tricky stunt.

ITV put a ‘do not try this at home’ warning on screen as Thomas safely completed the task and secured a ‘yes’ from all four judges. Thomas previously appeared on America’s Got Talent and explained that the intent of his act was to show people Rubik’s cube can be ‘interesting.’

BGT faces backlash over fire act

While the judges may have given a ‘yes’ to the act, BGT fans are convinced that the act shouldn’t have been aired on TV. Apart from BGT fans making official complaints to Ofcom, many people expressed their anger on Twitter. One wrote:

Britain's Got Talent that was not a great idea putting the guy on the show setting him #onfire doing #rubikscube as kids will try recreate this by pouring lighter fluid on friends, highly irresponsible.

Another fumed:

YOU SHOULD NOT BE SHOWING THIS #BGT it’s a No no no no no @Ofcom @BGT

Two others raged:

#BGT If it was a regular Rubik’s Cube why didn’t it melt? Either way - irresponsible lunacy to show it @ITV

Just like the burning man doing a Rubik’s cube on BGT horrified me and traumatized thousands of children apparently!

A fourth added:

Something very disturbing about this guy being on fire doing the Rubik’s Cube 😬 it’s not entertaining at all and it doesn’t sit right #BGT #BritainsGotTalent

Many BGT fans also mocked the show for putting a ‘do not try this at home’ warning. They said:

“Do not try this at home” ah man, I really wanted to try solving a Rubik’s cube whilst being set on fire #BGT

Love the way Ant and Dec say “don’t try this at home” 🤣🤣🤣 last time it took 6 months to finish my Rubik’s cube be fucked if I was trying that 🤣 #BGT
