According to sources who spoke to Vanity Fair, the Queen herself tried to intervene to put an end to the drama as she worried about the impact it could have on the Royal Family.

‘Direction from the Queen’

She was very concerned that it was spiralling out of control, which it was. Buckingham Palace wanted to be able to do something and be proactive and make the situation go away. However, Meghan reportedly wanted to handle the difficult situation with her dad on her own, which apparently led to ‘a lot of tension between courtiers within the two royal households.’ In 2019, Thomas Markle reportedly shared a private letter Meghan had sent him in an attempt at reconciliation and it was published in the Mail.
