According to Hello!, royal baby Ernest's first name is a subtle nod to his ancestor, King George V, whose middle name was Ernest. The couple chose to honour Jack's late father too, George Brooksbank, who passed away during the same week as his grandson August's christening, on November 18, 2021. Also, the name Ronald is a reference to Princess Eugenie's maternal grandfather, Sarah Ferguson's father Major Ronald Ferguson.
