Dallington Hall’s history

The Hall, next to Dallington Park, dated 1720, was built by Sir Joseph Jekyll, a prominent barrister and Master of the Rolls. The Grade II listed building is in Northamptonshire and was home to Princess Diana’s great-uncle Charles Spencer.

Charles Spencer, a politician, used the house to host Conservative party members in the wine cellar, according to Mail Online. When he became the 6th Earl Spencer in 1910, after the death of his older brother, he moved the family seat to Althorp House and gave the Hall to the council to use for war efforts.

It is believed the house was used as a home for injured soldiers during World War II before being sold in the 1980s. It was subsequently divided into several apartments.

The five-bedroom property for sale

For the steep asking price of £995,000, one can buy only a five-bedroom house, although it does comprise a significant portion of the Hall. The estate agent in charge of the sale described the house as a ‘property that captures the imagination’.

The accommodation is spread over three floors connected by a two-storey listed Georgian oak staircase. Per Express, the old wine cellar where Charles Spencer used to host his politician friends has since been converted into a vaulted games room. The house also possesses a sauna on the lower ground floor.

The ground floor comprises a drawing room, dining room, sitting room and immense hall. The five bedrooms and two bathrooms are located on the upstairs floor.

The South-facing terrace overlooks a courtyard, a garden shaded by mature trees and an ornamental pond.

Nick Pattison, who is representing the property, said:

Dallington Hall is exceptionally beautiful and something of a lifestyle property. It offers a rare opportunity to be the custodian of a very important building.
