Princess Anne: A rare peek inside her ‘regular’ home in the Cotswolds

In February 2021, a photo of Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, was uploaded to the Royal Family's Twitter account, offering Royal fans a rare glimpse into the Princess's Gloucestershire home.

Where does Princess Anne live?

Like many Royal Family members, the Princess Royalmaintains a London residence, but Her Highness only uses it for entertainment.

Princess Anne has called a Grade II-listed manor house in Gloucestershireher home since the mid-1970s. The house was a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth to her newly married-daughter. She lived there with her first husband, Mark Philips, until their divorce in 1992. It is also Peter Philips and Zara Tindall's childhood home.

The house is located on approximately 730 acres of parkland between Minchinhampton and Avening, in the heart of the Cotswolds. It isn't far from the King's Highgrove Estate.

Although King Charles is more often known as the Royal with green fingers, Princess Anne also concerns herself with agricultural issues. Her private Royal residence is also a working farm, with livestock such as breeding horses and cattle.

In 2014, Countryfile called Princess Anne 'the most rural of Royals'. The Princess Royal told the BBC show:

It's really nice to come back and just be yourself in an area like this.

But she also explained that the farm was vital to the estate's upkeep.

I’ve got to make it work. This is not something that comes free. This has got to pay its way; otherwise, I can’t stay here.

Princess Anne also hosts the Festival of British Eventing every year in August. It is an event which reflects her and her daughter, Zara's passion for all things equestrian.

'As cluttered as the average commoner'

During the 2021 Six Nations Championship, as a patron on the Scottish rugby team, Princess Anne shared a photo of her and her husband in their living room watching the game.

It is a rare glimpse into the Princess's home, and royal fans were shocked at how 'normal' it was. One user said:

Cute how regular their living room looks. Definitely not curated.

Many social media users commented on the 'clutter' in HRH's living room. One tweeted:

I feel a little claustrophobic just looking at all the stuff in their living room!

While another agreed:

Love to see that their TV watching room is as cluttered as the average commoner, maybe more so!

The living room has neutral cream walls, with many paintings hanging around the room. The floors are light, and there is only a small ornate rug in front of the floral orange sofas. The wooden furniture is piled high with family photos, books, and trinkets. The coffee table in front of the Royal couple is littered with books and papers. The image gives off a cosy vibe and makes Princess Anne all the more 'human' to fans.
