Prince William: 'Baseless' anonymous tip had him trending on the internet, here's why

Prince William was trending on Twitter yesterday after an anonymous tip was sent into the infamous gossip Instagram account@deuxmoi that has re-sparked rumours about the Duke’s alleged extra-marital affair.

The tipster does not explicitly name Prince William and Deuxmoi admits that the tips they receive have not been 'independently confirmed' and that it 'does not claim any information published is based in fact.'

Given their rather peculiar way of sourcing and publishing information, it's best not to take this piece of scandalous (and possibly fake) news too seriously.

What was the tip?

Deuxmoi is an Instagram account that publishes celebrity gossip sent in by anonymous tipsters. The 'salacious' tip that was sent in alleges that a British royal’s extra-marital affair is an 'open secret' and is due to the royal’s 'love of pegging,' as reported by Cosmopolitan.

Social media users have assumed the royal in question is Prince William and as a result, #PrinceWilliamAffair and #PrinceofPegging are now trending on Twitter.

Why do people think it's Prince William?

It goes back to 2019 when American tabloid In Touchreported rumours that Prince William may have had an affair with Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, who is married to film director David Rocksavage. In a since-deleted article, The Sun claimed that the affair was the reason for the falling out of Kate Middleton and her friend and neighbour Rose, who they dubbed Kate's 'rural rival.'

For some unknown reason, people in the Twitterverse decided that the tip about the royal who enjoyed pegging was Prince William.

Are the rumours true?

According to Richard Kay for the Daily Mail:

I am told the rumours of a falling out between these two attractive young women are false. I can also reveal both sides have considered legal action but, because none of the reports have been able to offer any evidence about what the so-called dispute is about, they have chosen to ignore it.

No one can say for certain if they are true or false. Cosmopolitan states that the rumours are 'likely false' since the tip is completely 'unverified and 'baseless'.

The Royal Family and Buckingham Palace have not commented on the issue.
