King Charles could be 'outranked' by guests during coronation as he breaks crucial royal tradition

King Charles will officially be crowned King in less than a month, on May 6. As the historic day gets closer, the guest list is slowly being announced. As of now, we know that President Joe Biden won’t attend, but his wife Jill will.

The invitations, which caused quite a bit of trouble, were sent out and the design was shared on the Royal Family's Instagram page. It is still unclear whether or not Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will attend the ceremony.

Most details about King Charles’ coronation have been revealed, from who will be the King and Queen’s Pages of Honour as well as the King’s procession. We also know that other Royal families will be attending the big day.

Other Royal families will attend King Charles’ coronation

Some of the coronation attendees have been announced. Many other Royal families from around the world will be celebrating the King’s coronation.

According to Hello! From Denmark, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will attend the King’s coronation.

From Monaco, Prince Albert and his wife, Princess Charlene, who was recently seen at a memorial ceremony, will attend.

Japan’s Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko have also confirmed their presence who will represent his brother, Emperor Naruhito. This is due to Japanese royal protocol, the reigning Emperor doesn’t attend foreign royal coronations.

Most surprisingly, the King and Queen of Spain, Felipe and Letizia have accepted the invitation to the coronation ceremony as well as the Swedish King, Carl Gustaf and his daughter Crown Princess Victoria.

Other reigning monarchs don’t usually attend coronation ceremonies

The royal family guest list is quite surprising, especially since other Kings and Queens are attending. As reported by Hello! traditionally, heads of state don’t attend each other’s coronation ceremonies so as not to outrank the one being crowned.

However, this isn’t an uncommon move for King Charles, who has been breaking quite a few traditions. Indeed the King is known to be close with the other European royal families. Many had attended his late mother’s funeral service in 2022.

So not only is King Charles’ coronation a typical historic event, but it’ll also be a first of its kind as he has chosen to invite other reigning monarchs to celebrate his big day.
