The Queen may be fond of the Duchess of Cambridge today, but it would seem that she had reservations about Kate’s career or lack thereof. Indeed the remark she made ‘stung’ Kate but it didn’t seem to bother Prince William.

The Queen’s concern
When Kate and Prince William began dating, the Queen was not sure of Kate’s luxurious lifestyle. Indeed at the beginning of their relationship, Kate really enjoyed fancy holidays, often seen on the Caribbean island of Mustique with her family or enjoying lovely romantic skiing holidays with Prince William.

If she was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique. Kate was there so often the press dubbed her ‘Queen of Mustique’, a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret.
The reason the Queen was not fond of this behaviour was that Britain was going through a recession at the time and frivolous displays of wealth were unacceptable for Her Majesty.

She needed a proper career
Nicholl added:
It is Her Majesty’s opinion that if Kate is one day going to be William’s consort, then she needs a proper job.
Indeed the Queen did not believe a person going from one five-star resort to another would be destined to be Queen.

However, it seems as though the Queen did not have to worry for long as the Duchess of Cambridge has really adapted to her role as a member of the royal family. She has become an extremely popular member of the royal family and has proven her worth.
