'The bulimia started a week after the engagement'

Andrew Morton published a biography entitled Diana: Her True Story - In Her Own Words in 1992, in which the biographer transcribed Lady Di's confessions. Gala reported on the shocking revelations she made about her relationship with Prince Charles, her suicide attempts, and her eating disorders and struggles with bulimia. When speaking with a biographer, Diana confided:

The bulimia started a week after our engagement and took a decade to overcome.

She also confided about what the triggering element was:

My husband put his hand on my waist and said: 'Oh, a little chubby here, isn't it?'

A complicated marriage

It's no secret that the relationship between Lady Di and Prince Charles was not always smooth, and was complicated right from the start. Her eating disorder also worsened when she learned of her husband's affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. Lady Di told the biographer:

I was desperate, desperate. I remember the first time I made myself sick. I was so thrilled because I thought this was the release of tension.

Moreover, on her honeymoon, the Princess of Wales had to come to terms with this adultery. Lady Di had the unpleasant surprise of finding a photo of her husband's mistress while they were on their honeymoon. Penny Junor, an expert on the royal family, wrote in her book:
