Arthur Chatto is one of the lesser-known royals, but that doesn't mean people don’t know who he is as it seems people are gushing over Princess Margaret’s grandson.

Princess Margaret died in 2002 at the age of 71. She had two children with Antony Armstrong-Jones, Lady Sarah Chatto and David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowdon. Her daughter, Lady Sarah also had two children, Arthur Robert Nathaniel Chatto and Samuel Chatto. Her son, David had two children, Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones and Charles Armstrong-Jones.

Arthur Chatto, who was born on February 5, 1999, recently celebrated his 25th birthday. The young Royal had an important role in the Royal Family while the late Queen Elizabeth was alive but has since stepped back and has been doing his own thing.

Who is Arthur Chatto?

As mentioned above, Arthur Chatto is one of Princess Margaret’s grandsons, through her daughter, Lady Sarah. Like many royals, Arthur attended Eton College, and then attended the University of Edinburgh with his brother, as per Daily Mail.

Whilst at Eton College, Arthur was a part of the school’s Combined Cadet Forces, which teaches students military skills. At the University of Edinburgh, Princess Margaret’s grandson studied History of Art.

From 2009 to 2015 he was Queen Elizabeth’s Page of Honour, which means he was responsible for carrying his great-aunt’s gowns during special events, such as the Service for the Order of the British Empire in 2012.

Arthur Chatto made Royal history

While young Arthur was studying at university, he also had a job on the side, unlike more popular royals. Indeed, according to The Sun, he was a personal trainer and focused on strength and military training with a military focus.

Even though Arthur Chatto isn’t one of the more popular Royals, he made history as the first member of the Royal Family to join the Marines in 2021. As per Daily Mail, the late Queen Elizabeth was ‘pleased and proud’ of his accomplishment.

Now when Arthur attends official events, he is seen in his Marine uniform, like at the Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen at St Paul's Cathedral in 2022. As reported by The Sun, Arthur and his brother Sam have often been referred to as the Royal Family’s ‘most handsome members’ by publications.

Not only is Arthur Chatto a Marine, but he also has a love for the outdoors and is an environmentalist like Prince William and Prince Harry.

Princess Margaret’s grandson took part in a row around the UK with a 4 man team to raise money for The British Red Cross and Just One Ocean in 2020. Arthur and his team completed the challenge in 42 days 8hrs 23 mins 16 seconds, as per The Sun.

Arthur is also quite a daredevil and has been mountain climbing in the Alps and has been ice diving in Greenland.
