Victoria Beckham is back in the spotlight because of this one weird request

A claim coming from a former host of the iconic show Top Of The Pops states that Victoria Beckham made a very weird request when appearing on the show.

Host Gail Porter has shared that when the singer was on the show in 2000 she required that no one make eye contact with her. Not only that, Porter alleges that Beckham didn’t interact with anyone on set that day, imposing a tense atmosphere.

Beckham, who at the time was trying to have a go at a solo music career, shared the stage with Dane Bowers. According to Porter the two behaved very strangely leading to crew members and other guests making fun of them.

In 2023, and for numerous years now, Victoria Beckham has left her music career behind to embrace her true passion: fashion design. She is now at the head of a hugely successful brand that is reported to be worth over $100 million.

But before that, she was known for being Posh Spice in the pop sensation the Spice Girls. When the group split all members tried to establish their own music career including Victoria Beckham. However, since leaving her music behind in 2004, the former singer has admitted that she only did it because she felt like that was the thing to do.

In a 2009 Harper’s Bazaar interview she shared:

People never believed the solo singing career, and it wasn't the real me - I was a little bit lost at the time.

Top Of The Pops performance

Beckham’s 2009 confession might explain her weird behaviour on Top Of The Pops. Former host of the show, Gail Porter has revealed that when the singer came to perform in 2000 she asked that no one make eye contact with her.

While this request is in itself a little strange, Porter reports that Beckham also refused to interact with anyone on the show leading to some very uncomfortable moments.

She says:

Victoria and Dane’s people had banned anyone from making eye contact with them while they were there, so it was super awkward.

She also says that other guests called the two singers performing ‘w***ers.’ If that wasn’t enough, Porter explains that their lack of interaction led to some production mishaps.

There was a camera there and they weren’t sure if the camera was still on, so they didn’t want to move until it left.

Indeed, as the crew had been instructed not to interact they did just that creating what they believed was a ‘hilarious’ moment.

Porter continues:

We were all sitting in the make-up room, watching on the monitor, going, ‘They’re still there’. The cameraman was like, ‘I’m not moving, this is too funny’. I said, ‘That’s mean’. He said: ‘It’s hilarious’.
