Celebrity ally to the rescue
Reportedly, Mel C told her fans on social media about the ‘issues’ that have prompted her to withdraw from the Polish state broadcaster’s special guest position for New Year’s eve. She said:
In light of some issues that have been brought to my attention, that do not align with the communities I support, I’m afraid I will no longer be able to perform in Poland as planned on New Year’s Eve.More under this adMore under this ad

While it’s not made certain what ‘issues’ Mel C is talking about, Sky News reported that they relate to the LGBTQ+ community. Mel C is a big ally of the LGBTQ+ community so much so that at the British LGBT Awards last year Mel C was awarded the celebrity ally award.
Poland, on the other hand, has the worst protections for LGBTQ+ people in the European Union. Same-sex marriage is not only not recognised in the country, but also same-sex couples are prevented from adopting children.

One of us was fired from this TV channel because of being gay. As much we would like to see you in Poland, we are extremally proud and happy that you refused to perform in this full of hate to LGBT national tv. Thank you for your support!More under this adMore under this ad
While another two chimed in:
Thank You, Melanie. It is really important what you're doing right now. Thank You and best wishes and a lot of love from Poland
Melanie C bravo! Polish television persecutes gays, as well as anyone who has different views from the current views. The fact that the LGBT community is constantly humiliated by politicians, including the president of Poland.More under this adMore under this ad
