Ruth Langsford: This is how the TV presenter has evolved throughout her decades-long career

Ruth Langsford was born on 17 March, 1960, in Singapore.

Ruth Langsford spent the first ten years of her life in different countries, as her father was in the Army. 

As her father was deployed all over the world, Ruth was sent to boarding school in England. She was educated at the Grey Coat Hospital in central London.

After serving his country for 23 years, Ruth's father left the army and the family relocated to Cornwall to live together again.

As a teenager, Ruth explains: ‘I was a very very directionless teenager. I flunked school’.

As she didn't ‘have a clue what to do’, her mother suggested she becomes a secretary. She got a job at Westward Television, where she was given the opportunity to be a ‘continuity presenter’, which launched her career.

In 1997, Ruth Langsford first appeared as an official presenter on ITV's Really Useful Show.

She is the longest-serving presenter of iconic TV show This Morning.

Ruth Langsford and her husband Eamonn Holmes started presenting This Morning in 1999.

In 1999, she became a recurring panellist on British show Loose Women, the equivalent of America's The View.

In 2013, she even became one of Loose Women's presenters. 

Ruth Langsford met Eamonn Holmes in 1997, but they kept their relationship secret at first.

The two presenters were introduced by a mutual friend, TV presenter Sally Meen.

When they started dating, they had to keep their relationship secret because Eamonn Holmes was married to Gabrielle Holmes, although he was separated. 

Eamonn Holmes had been with his first wife for 20 years and had three children together. 

Eamonn Holmes' divorce was finalised in 2005 and he waited another five years before popping the question.

In the traditional way, Eamonn Holmes asked Ruth's parents for their permission to marry their daughter. Unfortunately, as Ruth's father suffered from Alzheimer's, her mother gave her blessing. 

Ruth Langsford took Eamonn Holmes' three children in as her own, and they welcomed a son together, Jack, in 2002.

During their 14-year marriage, Eamonn Holmes suffered from chronic back pain. Ruth always remained by his side.

In 2018, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes presented Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank. 

As fans were worried about her absence on screen, Ruth Langsford released a statement announcing her sister's death.

When asked about her sister's death, Ruth Langsford said: ‘My lovely sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever’.

Ruth and Eamonn's son, Jack, studied journalism at Salford University. Talking about her son leaving the nest, Ruth said: ‘That first week of not having him at home literally felt like part of my heart ripped out’.

According to recent estimations, Ruth Langsford's net worth is around £3.8 million, which doesn't take into account her husband's earnings.

In 2017, Ruth Langsford was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. She reportedly loved the experience as she explained: 'It's everything I thought it would be and everything I dreamt it would be - with bells on'.

In 2011, she became an ambassador for Playtex, a lingerie line.

In 2016, Ruth Langsford for selected for the presentation of the Pride of Britain Awards.

Despite all the years of their relationship and marriage, Ruth Langsford never took Eamonn's last name. He asked her why while on an episode of This Morning in 2018, and she responded: 

'It's a bit of a mouthful isn't it? Langsford is a bit of a mouthful on its own. I'm an independent woman.'

After weeks of separation rumours, the couple announced they are getting a divorce after 14 years together. 

It is reported that Ruth Langsford has found some messages on her ex-husband's phone complimenting another woman, leaving her ‘angry’.

A source close to the couple told The Sun: ‘She had no idea what had been going on between them. She was devastated. Not only was she very upset but she was also angry’.
