Pretty Woman: This is what the cast are doing now, 34 years after the film's release

More than 30 years ago, Pretty Woman enchanted moviegoers the world over with its modern-day love story.

The love story unfolded between a kind-hearted prostitute, played by the talented Julia Roberts, and a charismatic businessman, played by the handsome Richard Gere.

The movie was such a hit that Julia Robert won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Pretty Woman is considered to be the number one romantic comedy with the highest number of tickets sold domestically (USA). It sits at the top with a 41,176,400 tickets sold. 

While the film remains a benchmark for the genre, many wonder what has become of the lead actors and other cast members. We've taken a trip down memory lane to discover the fascinating journeys of these Hollywood stars since the release of the iconic film.

Since her unforgettable role as Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts has continued to sit at the top of Hollywood.

She won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Erin Brockovich in 2001 and has won audiences over with films such as Notting Hill and Ocean's Eleven.

The actress is currently working on her next big project, After The Hunt, alongside Challengers director Luca Guadagnino. She is playing the protagonist in the dramatic thriller. 

Having charmed audiences with his portrayal of businessman Edward Lewis, Richard Gere has continued to expand his range as an actor.

He has been acclaimed for his performances in films such as Chicago and Revolutionary Road. Richard Gere has also demonstrated his commitment to humanitarian causes, working on issues relating to human rights and social justice.

The famous actor recently came out with a film called Oh Canada and was promoting it at the Cannes Film Festival. 

Jason Alexander, famous for his comic role in Pretty Woman, has gone on to pursue a career of his own. Known as Vivian's hilarious lawyer, the actor has demonstrated his versatility in a variety of projects over the years.

After Pretty Woman, Alexander rose to worldwide fame as George Costanza in the cult sitcom Seinfeld. His comedic portrayal of Jerry Seinfeld's best friend won him acclaim and even a Primetime Emmy Award.

Jason Alexander made his comeback in theatre for Rob Ulin's Judgment Day. He will also be starring in The Electric State alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt which is due to release in 2024.

Laura San Giacomo, the actress who brilliantly portrayed Kit De Luca, Vivian's caring friend, in Pretty Woman, has enjoyed a successful film career since her appearance in the iconic film.

After sharing the screen with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, she shone in the film Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989), which earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

The actress has also enjoyed success on television, notably with her role in the hit medical series ER, where she played Dr. Kerry Weaver for several seasons.
 

Today, Laura San Giacomo is not as active an actress as she once was. She played Bafana in seven episodes of the series Santa Clauses in 2022 and 2023. 

As well as Pretty Woman, Hank Azaria is best known for his impressive voiceover career on the hit animated series The Simpsons. He has lent his voice to many iconic characters, including Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum and Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.

Hank Azaria has won acclaim for his performances in films such as The Birdcage in 1996, and Godzilla, in 1998. Hank Azaria has also enjoyed success on the small screen, notably with his role in the series Friends, where he played David, Phoebe's boyfriend.

Most recently, Azaria has embarked on a career as a musician, but it's not exactly what you think. He's started a Bruce Springsteen cover band called Hank Azaria and the EZ Street Band. He is trying to do an impression of Bruce Springsteen's life in a project he says sums up his mission of sharing vocal impressions. 

According to Rolling Stones, he has even turned down acting roles to tour with his band

Amy Yasbeck, the actress who played Edward's betrayed fiancée Susan in Pretty Woman, has since continued to bring her charm and talent to the entertainment industry. Following the success of Pretty Woman, she starred in the fantasy comedy The Mask, in 1994, where she shared the screen with Jim Carrey.

However, it was her role in the TV series Wings that consolidated her reputation. Amy Yasbeck joined the cast of this hit comedy for several seasons.

Her last role was in 2016, when she was on one episode of Pretty Little Liars but has been very active on social media. She interviewed a few stars for Still Here Hollywood podcast.

Born in 1904, Ralph Bellamy began his career in the 1920s. Before Pretty Woman, Bellamy had already appeared in over a hundred films, gaining fame for his performances in such classics as The Awful Truth, in 1937, and His Girl Friday in 1940.

Ralph Bellamy was nominated for an honorary Oscar in 1987 for his outstanding contributions to the film industry. The actor died in 1991.

Hector Elizondo, the actor who played Barney Thompson, the benevolent hotel manager in Pretty Woman, has a film and television career spanning decades.

After Pretty Woman, Hector Elizondo's career continued to flourish. He was a key actor in several successful films, including the romantic comedy The Princess Diaries, in 2001, and its sequel The Princess Diaries 2, in 2004. He was one of the faces of the hit series Chicago Hope.

Most recently, he played Dr. Neven Bell in Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie which came out in 2023. 

Larry Miller is an American actor, producer and screenwriter who has appeared in many famous films apart from Pretty Woman.

His filmography is impressive. The actor has appeared in Ten Things I Hate About You, Happy New Year, Princess Diaries 2, and Blonde Ambition.

Larry Miller's last role was on NCIS when he played Ed Slater for 2 episodes—on in 2011 and another in 2019. In 2012, he suffered a serious brain injury, but the actor made a quick recovery.

In 1999, Garry Marshall reunited Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in another comedy, The Runaway Bride. The story is simple, Roberts plays Maggie Carpenter, known locally for leaving three different men at the altar. Gere plays reported Ike Graham who wrote a mean-spirited article about her which gets him fired. In an attempt to get his job back, Ike's boss tells him to prove that his article was correct. This leads to him going to spend time with her… we won't spoil the end.  

The film grossed $309 million worldwide.
