“The redemption and gaining control of your life, the do-over, it's … truly a gift from God.”

This project, which hit streaming platforms in May 2024, is designed to be a safe haven for women rebuilding after hardship—and for Kayla, it’s both therapy and a declaration of independence.

Her focus now rests firmly on her three children, Caiden (8), Liv (6), and Georgia (2). She describes herself as “single”, admitting, “I’ve dated, but right now I’m choosing to remain single.” The divorce process with Ryan remains unresolved, with lingering disagreements around finances and co-parenting. “It could be a long road ahead still,” Kayla notes, painting a clear picture of a situation that’s far from finished.

Family Tensions and Parallel Parenting : Life After Ryan Lochte

Since the split, both Kayla and Ryan have struggled to find stability for their children. “My focus is on my kids and building the life I envision for our future,” Kayla says, sharing her determination to provide security and happiness for her children, even if things aren’t perfect.

“They're doing okay. They have a great community of friends, and great school. Obviously, they have their little struggles, and they have their confusion, because they are wondering what's going on.”

Interaction between Kayla and Ryan is deliberately kept to a minimum—“We try to have minimal interaction”—as they navigate the realities of “parallel parenting”, a system that allows two exes to raise children separately with as little contact as possible. Ryan has since moved on, living with his new partner Molly Gillihan.

For Kayla, having the support of others has been essential.

“I have said it a thousand times, but I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have my girlfriends and my family. They have carried me on their backs this past year.”

For Ryan’s part, in 2023 he described their separation as:

“the right step toward peace and well-being for us both. I remain committed to healing, growth, and co-parenting with care and respect as we move forward separately.”
