Tragedy has struck Mariah Carey's life. The singer is in mourning following the death of two women in her life. The singer told People Magazine in an exclusive statement that her mother and sister died on the same day. She said:
My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.More under this adMore under this ad
I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.
She added that she 'appreciates everyone's love and support' and also their respect for her privacy during this 'impossible time'.

Mariah Carey's complicated relationship with her mother
Carey has often spoken about her relationship with her mother and siblings, but unfortunately, they were filled with trials and tribulations—an experience she has in common with far too many celebrities.
More under this adMore under this adMariah, her brother Morgan, and her sister Alison, were children of a marriage between their father Alfred, who was Afro-Venezuelan, and their mother Patricia, who was caucasian. The singer previously revealed that the fact that marriage was interracial caused many problems for the family. As per People, she said in 1999 on The Oprah Winfrey Show that they were victims of racial discrimination and violent attacks. It was also a source of conflict between Mariah Carey and her mother itself.
Her parents divorced when she was only three years old, and she then lived with her mother. While she has said that her mother did the 'best she could', she has shared that they've had a 'complicated journey together'. She wrote in her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey:

Her sister Alison had lodged a complaint against her

She made heavy claims about her sister in her memoir, which led to Alison filing a complaint against her and demanding over $1 million. Carey declared in the book:

Alison denied all the claims and has also made serious allegations of her own. In 2020, she said the singer and their mother Patricia allowed 'strangers' to sexually abuse her when she was a child.
