Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, has announced news that is sure to strike fear into the hearts of Madonna fans. In a statement posted on Instagram, he reveals:

On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU.

However, he was reassuring:

Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.

According to several US media reports, Madonna was found unconscious before being taken to hospital. Once there, she was intubated overnight. The Hung Up singer has since left the intensive care unit and is being closely monitored by doctors.For the moment, no further information about her infection has been revealed.

However, serious bacterial infections can cause inflammation that can affect the heart, lungs, nervous system, kidneys and digestive tract.
