Dame Joan Collins' first husband was actor Maxwell Reed. The Northern Irish actor rose to fame in the 1940s and 50s. The pair met when she was only seventeen, and the actor proposed after a few months of dating. However, they got divorced after four years, and Collins described their union as unhappy and controlling, especially since he had assaulted her on their very first date.
