In an interview, Kanye spoke about his bipolar disorder, a mental illness that the rapper calls his “super power”.

Whilst promoting his new album Ye in a radio interview, Kanye West revealed something pretty intimate. The 40-year-old rapper told his friend and presenter, Big Boy, that he had bipolar disorder.

A super power

Doctors were only able to diagnose him with the disorder last year, and he seems to be living with it just fine. “I was only diagnosed at 39. It’s my super power, not a handicap, I’m a superhero’, said the singer, who was hospitalised in 2016 following a psychotic breakdown.

I am blessed and so privileged because think about people that have mental issues that are not Kanye West, and make you feel like it’s all good”, the artists adds. He also refers back to what he said last month on the TMZ site about slavery. “When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sounds like a choice” said Kim Kardashian’s husband on May 1st.

Think about somebody that does exactly what I did at TMZ, but then Tuesday morning, they come in and lost a job. That’s why God put that on me at age 40”, the rapper claims in the interview, and he seems to have fully taken charge of his disorder.
