The BBC is trying to reduce its annual budget, which is currently at £400 million, by 2027. Cutbacks first started back in March when it was announced that the BBC would be showing 1,000 fewer hours of new shows this year.
Moreover, in 2022, the company decided to merge its 24-hour BBC News and World News channels, which naturally led to several presenters losing their jobs. However, five presenters, Martine Croxall, Annita McVeigh, Geeta Guru-Murthy, Karin Giannone and Kasia Madera are still on BBC’s payroll despite not having any air time in over 6 months.
