Aphasia is a language disorder which alters the speech of the individual, as they struggle to understand language and communicate. According to the Mayo Clinic, people with aphasia may struggle to find the right words, replace incorrect words, or talk in short, difficult-to-understand phrases. Even with speech treatment, certain communication abilities can be regained, but not to the extent that they were before to the injury.
