Davide Sanclimenti: Islander accused of hamming up Italian accent

The 27-year-old business owner originally from Italy, has been criticised by viewers that his strong accent isn't all that authentic.

'He was most likely asked to force it'

Reddit users have not been holding back with their analysis of Davide's special way of speaking. As it turns out, some of them think his accent is completely fake as they have pointed out that for someone who has that thick of an accent they would also need to make grammar mistakes in their speech. One user said:

I'm Italian and I think Davide's accent is fake. Or to the very least most certainly forced. There you go. I’m basing this on a very large pool of fellow Italians who live in the UK like me.

While another said:

People with an accent that strong also tend to mess up with the grammar, which is not Davide’s case. Some of the things he mispronounces are also not a thing. I’m not saying he has no accent at all, but he was most likely asked to force it.

A walking, talking stereotype?

Not only do some fans of the show think his accent is ridiculous, some of them say Davide's way of speaking reinforces negative stereotypes of Italian people. One Reddit user wrote:

The exaggerated vowels at the end of words is really OTT considering his English overall is near flawless. I just wanted to point it out because, as an Italian, it’s frustrating when people think the super Mario accent is our default. It’s fake. We can have strong accents but not that.
