Since 17 July and the first article published by independent publication Byline Times, presenter Dan Wootton and the channel for which he works, GB News, have been under a lot of fire.

To make a long series of articles short, here are the allegations they are battling. According to Byline, Dan Wootton used the names ‘Martin Branning’ and ‘Maria Joseph’ in order to catfish former colleagues; setting them up to get explicit videos, sometimes without their consent. It was also revealed that while he worked at The Sun, Dan Wootton had been seen 'bullying' and 'harassing' co-workers, specifically on the basis of their sexual orientation. Finally, so far, Byline alleges that his misconduct lasted for ten years.

Now, on 11 August, other allegations have surfaced but this time they concern GB News overall. When it comes to Dan Wootton, X followers are urging him to comment on his own scandal.

How long can GB News and Dan Wootton stay silent?

In their article Byline alleges that the channel ‘settled an employment claim for a five-figure sum in which sexual harassment was alleged against its chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos.’ They also reveal that the channel ‘shut down’ the concerning ‘racism and bullying’ claims.

We understand that Byline Times has spoken to different sources, one who says that after a woman turned down Frangopoulos’ advances ‘she felt ostracised, bullied and became psychologically distressed.’ However, the publication also states that they ‘understand’ that no internal claim has ever been made against the CEO of GB News but that there is evidence of a ‘financial settlement.

Byline also puts into the spotlight a 2022 case ‘centred on allegations of racial discrimination.’ They report that GB News failed to protect their employee from racist emails coming from viewers.

The woman involved got next to no support from the company (...) The content of some of these emails was really, really, shocking. One referred to George Floyd as ‘just another dead n****r’

It also appears that the journalist in question was dismissed from the channel which a National Union of Journalists calls an ‘absolutely disgraceful case.’

Furthermore, Bylinereports several alleged sexual harassment ‘incidents.’ A source claims that a woman journalist has been called ‘ugly,’ to ‘put a bag’ on her head and to ‘open her legs’ in order to advance her career.

When the scandal first started, Wootton did comment on it on air. In his statement he denies all claims of criminality and believes he is the target of a ‘witch hunt’ led by his ex-partner and Byline Times.
