Alastair Stewart: Everything we know about the GB News presenter’s career after dementia diagnosis

Alastair Stewart revealed his dementia diagnosis on Camilla Tominey's GB News back in September. The broadcaster explained that it wasn’t like he was ‘becoming forgetful’ but he was being ‘discombobulated.’ When Alastair explained his concern to his GP he got a scan done that revealed he had experienced a series of ‘minor strokes that are called infarct strokes,’ but that he had ‘no idea’ they were happening.

Hence, the loved presenter decided to take a step back from his presenting duties at GB News.

Alastair Stewart’s career update after dementia

On Monday Night, Alastair was joined by I’m A Celeb finalist Nigel Farage on GB News where he shared an update on what his career is going to look like after his ‘sad’ retirement. He revealed that it’s not the last viewers will see of him. Addressing his retirement, he said:

When I became ill, before I had the formal diagnosis of vascular dementia, I decided it was time to step back a bit because that clearly wasn't helping what was wrong with me.

The 71-year-old emphasised that the decision was ‘sad’ but the ‘right thing to do’ for him. On being asked how he is handling the retirement, Alastair hinted it’s not the end of everything. He shared:

Not terribly well. I still watch [the show] day in and day out and I still listen to the radio and look at as many papers as I can.

Hearing his response, Nigel joked ‘You're not really retired are you?’, to which he replied:

I'm resting. I'm retired from doing a regular show like you and Jacob [Rees-Mogg] and the others.

Meanwhile, he replied to a fan on X and wrote:

Just not up to a regular slot and 24/7 weekend working! Occasional appearances and special one- offs! @GBNEWS.

Alastair explained that when he told his GB News bosses that he will be retiring, they ‘completely understood’ his reason for stepping back and kept a little window open for him to return if he ever intended to do that. He said:

GB News looked after me extremely well when I started to become ill and when we jointly decided it was time for me to step back.

They couldn't have been nicer nor could they have been kinder. I really value that and so does my family.
